Community Service: Weekend of Good and Books for Africa

Enjoy a mix of Saturday morning volunteer projects to suit your tastes, and a Saturday afternoon party at Monday Night Brewing.

FIRST you’ll get your hands dirty working with some of the best nonprofits in town, THEN you’ll get to relax and meet the rest of the volunteers during our afternoon tour and tasting at Monday Night Brewing. It’s a combination that cannot be beat.

How does it work?

Show up (on time) on Saturday, March 21st at your designated volunteer location and spend a few hours working in the community

Meet us from 2-4pm at Monday Night Brewing for a relaxing afternoon (with food, games, and more).

Tell your friends, neighbors and co-workers to sign up - if you refer 3 new people to this event, we’ll give you a free Community Bucket & JCI Atlanta t-shirt!

*PLEASE NOTE: JCI ATLANTA WILL PARTICIPATE AT THE BOOKS OF AFRICA EVENT

Wylde Center – If sustainable farming is your thing, then you’ll love working with the Wylde Center folks. When it comes to urban agriculture, they’re among the best. Spend a fun-filled morning in their Oakhurst garden, and learn about the exciting programming they do for the local community. 10am – 1pm off Edgewood Ave.

Concrete Jungle - These urban farming folks don’t mess around when it comes to producing thousands of pounds of fresh fruit and veggies every year to donate to local shelters and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. You and your fellow volunteers will descend on Doghead Farm in SW Atlanta to weed, dig, chop, water, mulch, plant, and harvest in a whole new “team challenge” format… remember, they rely solely on volunteers to keep this farm going. 10:00am – 12:00pm in SW Atlanta.

MedShare - If you are unfamiliar with MedShare, they divert unused medical supplies from the landfill (turns out, we waste a lot in this country) and ship them to underserved countries. Basically, they’re awesome on many levels. Volunteers work together in their warehouse to sort, pack, weigh and ship these supplies. It’s indoors, a lot of fun, and you’ll be able to see your impact firsthand. 9am – 12pm in Decatur, just outside of I-285.

Books For Africa - This action-packed warehouse in Smyrna flies under the radar, but they’ve been shipping millions of books to schools across Africa for 30 years. Be part of the history as you work with your teammates to sort, pack and load the books, and of course have a blast. 10:30am – 1:30pm in Smyrna area.

PAWS Atlanta –  For the animal lovers in the group, you’ll get a chance to help Decatur’s only true n0-kill shelter improve itself with a mix of landscaping, cleaning, and of course, playing with the dogs and cats. We can’t guarantee you’ll leave without a new adoption...11:00am – 1:00pm in Decatur.

It’s completely free to take part in the Weekend of Good. If you would like to pre-purchase your entrance to Monday Night Brewing, you can do so for $10. Even if you don’t, you can still attend!
