Join JCI Atlanta for our monthly speaker series event.
As always, we will begin with an hour of networking which will be followed by our special speaker Dr. Peter McElroy from Centers For Disease Control.
Dr. Peter McElroy is the Program Implementation Unit Chief, and CDC Team Lead for the US President’s Malaria Initiative in the Malaria Branch, Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria.
Dr. McElroy’s malaria career dates to his days as a Peace Corps volunteer in western Kenya, at the geographic center of what’s become the proving ground for collaborative malaria research between CDC and the Kenya Medical Research Institute. He has a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Michigan and joined CDC as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination. Peter is a globally recognized researcher whose work has emphasized HIV, tuberculosis and malaria epidemiology and prevention. He is currently serving as Regional Coordinator for East Africa in the Malaria Branch, after completing service as the CDC Resident Advisor for the President’s Malaria Initiative in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Peter will gradually transition into the role over the coming weeks, completing that process in time for PMI’s Interagency Advisory Group meeting, on October 7, 2014.
Globally, JCI provides significant support for the Nothing But Nets campaign and we recently hosted the United Nations Foundation in Atlanta to raise awareness for this great cause. $10 provides a net which can save the lives of 2 adults for up to 3 years. As simple as it sounds, it has been measured to be one of the most effective campaigns against Malaria in Africa.
Please remember that guest fees are donated entirely to the cause.
Please bring along your friends, colleagues, siblings.
We are looking forward to seeing your there.
